2010 Nissan Maxima
It sounds weird at first, a small sedan with a diesel engine offered only as a manual transmission. The fact of the matter is that it could very well be the next Maxima to hit United States shores. It is uncertain whether the new Maxima will come with 3 pedals or not, but one thing is clear is that most signs point to no automatic transmission. An issue with turbo lag in diesel engines was described by a Nissan official as the main reason for offering only manual transmissions.
This may present a problem though, because most American drivers prefer the convenience of an automatic transmission, this may defer drivers from buying a diesel power train. Although the car will still be offered with regular gas engines, Nissan is very driven to show how great this new diesel engine is.
Other Nissan diesel models are offered only in standard as well, providing better response to the driver. Although the final decision still remains unclear, one thing is certain, it will be interesting to see what hits the shores in 2010.
